Iran Rejects Claims of President Pezeshkian’s Resignation Reports

(MENAFN) Iranian authorities have firmly denied reports suggesting that President Masoud Pezeshkian had stepped down, dismissing the claims as unfounded and politically motivated.

According to reports, Mehdi Tabatabaei, deputy head of communications in the presidential office, addressed the rumors in a post on the social media platform X, describing them as “false” and accusing certain foreign outlets of spreading “media games.”

He emphasized that “Pezeshkian would not back down from serving the Iranian people,” adding that Iran remains committed to “the path of unity and solidarity.”

Tabatabaei further argued that those attempting to weaken national cohesion would ultimately fail, stating that efforts to undermine unity would once again “take that wish to the grave,” while rejecting suggestions of internal political divisions.

The denial comes amid continued regional instability. According to reports, tensions in the Middle East escalated following strikes by the United States and Israel against Iran in late February, prompting retaliatory actions by Tehran targeting Israeli territory and US-aligned interests in the Gulf, alongside disruptions to maritime routes including the Strait of Hormuz.

A ceasefire was reportedly established on April 8 through mediation involving Pakistan, though follow-up talks held in Islamabad did not lead to a lasting agreement.

Since then, Iran and the United States have continued indirect communication, exchanging proposals in an effort to restart formal negotiations aimed at ending the conflict, according to reports.
