U.S. Senator Issues Military Warning to Russia
The senator’s comments came in the context of escalating tensions over the Ukraine conflict and economic measures targeting Russia.
On Monday, President Trump declared his intention to enforce economic sanctions on Russia and any nations purchasing Russian products unless the ongoing conflict in Ukraine is resolved within a 50-day deadline.
Senator Graham, who helped introduce a bipartisan bill advocating for these sanctions, expressed support for the ultimatum by drawing attention to last month’s American military strike on Iran.
Graham posted on X, saying, "If [Russian President Vladimir] Putin and others are wondering what happens on day 51, I would suggest they call the Ayatollah."
He further warned, "If I were a country buying cheap Russian oil, propping up Putin’s war machine, I would take President Trump at his word."
Meanwhile, Russian representatives have asserted that no external pressure will deter Moscow from pursuing its primary goals in the Ukraine conflict.
Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov criticized Western nations, stating they are damaging their own economies by attempting to enforce additional sanctions.
