Putin condemns attack on Iran

(MENAFN) Russian President Vladimir Putin has denounced the recent US and Israeli military actions against Iran, calling them unjustified and illegitimate. During a meeting in Moscow on Monday with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Putin described the attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities as “unprovoked aggression” and said there was no legitimate reason for such actions.

Putin criticized both Washington and Tel Aviv for violating international norms and reaffirmed Russia’s support for Iran. He welcomed Araghchi’s visit as a timely opportunity for the two nations to consult closely on the escalating crisis and to seek solutions together.

Araghchi echoed Putin’s sentiments, praising Russia for standing “on the right side of history and international law.” He defended Iran’s recent retaliatory strikes on Israel as a lawful act of defending national sovereignty.

The US and Israel have justified their attacks by alleging that Iran is close to acquiring nuclear weapons — a claim Tehran firmly denies, maintaining that its nuclear program is strictly for peaceful purposes.
