Putin affirms Iran has right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes
He reiterated Russia’s opposition to nuclear weapons proliferation and highlighted that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has found no proof that Iran is seeking to develop nuclear arms.
Recently, Israel launched a series of strikes against Iran, citing concerns that Tehran is nearing a critical stage in its alleged nuclear weapons program and claiming the attacks were necessary to prevent this. Iran denies any military ambitions in its nuclear program and responded with missile and drone attacks on Israel.
Putin called on both countries to pursue dialogue to resolve their differences and noted that Moscow has consistently communicated to Israel the absence of evidence supporting Tehran’s nuclear weapon development.
The IAEA director Rafael Grossi recently reported that Iran is the only non-nuclear-weapon state enriching uranium up to 60%. Meanwhile, US intelligence has found no proof of an Iranian nuclear weapons program, though former President Donald Trump insisted Iran was close to acquiring such weapons and demanded its unconditional surrender.
Putin, who has direct communication with leaders of Israel, Iran, and the US, suggested that a peaceful resolution should include mutual security guarantees safeguarding Iran’s peaceful nuclear rights alongside Israel’s security concerns.
